An overview of Ayurvedic treatment for Madhumeham patients
In Ayurveda, Madhumeham encompasses not only just the hyperglycemia; but the associated side effects & complications. Ayurvedic treatment of diabetes corrects metabolism & repair pancreas to arrest its knock-on effect of other complications while the body is taken as a whole & the treatment is done accordingly. A patient suffering from Madhumeham should resort to natural formulations to treat high sugar levels before it takes a more fatal form & causes heart attack, blindness (Diabetic retinopathy), nerve damage (Diabetic neuropathy), Kidney failure. This may help temporarily but causes many side effects & trigger other complications. For instance, taxing the remnant functional pancreatic cells to overwork, making them completely nonfunctional, and raising a definite need for artificial source of sugar controlling hormones.
Types, their causes & symptoms
Diabetes refers to the condition of high sugar levels that persist for a longer duration. It is a chronic, lifelong condition that affects your body'. In simple words, in such conditions, the body is unable to make proper use of glucose resulting in hyperglycemia (high sugar) & glycosuria (sugar in urine). Interaction of genetics & environmental factors can cause Madhumeham. These factors may include decreased the secretion of sugar controlling hormones, diminished glucose utilization, & higher glucose production.
Associated Complications with high sugar level:
Diabetic Neuropathies: Diabetic patients tend to develop nerve damage throughout the body & display symptoms like tingling or numbness, loss of feeling in the fingers, arms, legs, & feet. Organs of body systems like the digestive system, the cardiovascular system heart, & reproductive system may also get affected. Diabetic neuropathy is caused by different metabolic factors viz. a long duration of high glucose levels, high fat levels, & diminished levels of sugar controlling hormones etc.
Diabetic Nephropathies: High sugar level can destroy tiny vessels of kidneys. Diabetic nephropathy is more likely to occur in patients with high BP & high cholesterol. Unfortunately, there may not be symptoms in the early stages. However, as kidneys lose their ability to work, swelling in body parts (feet & legs) can be noticed.
Diabetic Retinopathies: high sugar level can also hinder the visual capabilities of the patients resulting in progressive loss of vision. It is caused due to swelling/changes in the vessels of the retina & associated fluid leakage. Sometimes, multiple abnormal new vessels may also grow on the surface of the retina of both eyes.
Diabetic Foot Ulcers: high sugar levels can break down of skin tissue, leading to exposing the layers underneath. This is a complication associated with Madhumeham and it is known as diabetic foot ulcers. It occurs commonly under the toes and can penetrate deep up to the bone. A high/fluctuating sugar level hampers the natural healing process of the skin; as a result, the disoriented self-repairing mechanisms render diabetic foot ulcers. The modern medical science understands this as reduced nerve functioning due to peripheral diabetic neuropathy.
